Nadia’s musical style is defined by smooth urban sounds fused with poetry and afro-pop. She has been a poet from high school and thus the rhyme influences in her music. Having started her music career at the age of 17, she says that the inspiration came from her father who listened to Taarab music collections, as well as music from Tanzanian female artist Ray C. Nadia grew up listening to Sanaipei Tande and Ray C, who contribute to Nadia’s creativity in music.

In 2020 Nadia managed to win a collaboration with her musical role model Sanaipei Tande on a single titled Wangu.

Nadia took up music professionally in 2015 when she recorded her single “Barua Ya Siri” while still in university.

Her breakthrough single “Kesi” received massive airplay and got her an opportunity to perform alongside Kenya’s biggest stars at countrywide platforms like Blaze by Safaricom (Kisumu), The Nile Festival and The Luo Festival, among others. A year later, she emerged as the winner on KTN’s Kipawa Show and went up to the finals of the Jenga Talanta show.

Two years into her career, Nadia got her first signing with record label Hailemind Entertainment, and has since released three great projects under the new management.

Her debut came after a feature on Coke Studio Africa 2019 in the Big Break segment, alongside Juma Jux (Tanzania) and Shellsy Baronet (Mozambique), while being produced by Tanzania’s Lizer. She was also later awarded the Silver Plaque by the YouTube Community for surpassing the 100,000 subscribers mark on her YouTube Channel.

Nadia Mukami and Sauti Sol have been considered for nominations for this year’s BET Awards. It’s worth noting that no Kenyan artist has been nominated for the BET Awards since 2015. Camp Mulla was the first Kenyan band to be nominated for the BET Awards in 2012 with Sauti Sol clinching a nomination in 2015.

She was also shortlisted for the Africa Music Magazine Awards (Afrimma) in 2020 for the Best East African Female Artiste category.
