Detectives looking into the case claim they have solid proof that some of the deceased at Odero’s church were interred on property owned by Kilifi cult leader Paul Mackenzie in Shakahola.
Ezekiel Odero, a contentious preacher, was arraigned in Shanzu on Friday.

Police asked the court to hold him for 30 days while they finished their inquiries.

According to convincing evidence presented to the court by the prosecution, some victims who passed away at Odero’s church were interred on property owned by Kilifi cult leader Paul Mackenzie in Shakahola.

“He is connected to various accounts in the occurrence books of around 100 fatalities that took place in the church between 2022 and 2023. According to Senior Prosecution Counsel Jami Yamina, “These fatalities took place inside church grounds.

Detectives also said they tracked 3 million shillings in a financial deal between Odella and Mackenzie over the acquisition of the television station.

Odera has admitted to buying the television network from Mackenzie, but said the business deal should not be tied to his Shakahola’s death.

“The acquisition of a television station cannot be linked to Shakahora’s murder. I will be held responsible for the crimes I committed,” his lawyer argued in court.

Odero, who spent the night at the Shanzu police station, was represented by his attorney, Jared Magolo. Regarding the death recorded at Odello’s church in Mabueni, his attorney said:
“People seek spiritual intervention at the last minute when all medical interventions have failed. When such a person dies, should we now consult a pastor and blame him for his death? ?”
