Kenyans will soon be able to pay for goods and services in stores and supermarkets by scanning QR (Quick Response) codes with their mobile devices.
This comes after the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), along with various players in the telecommunications and banking industries, published the Kenya Quick Response Code Standard 2023 on Wednesday.
The standard requires payment service providers (PSPs) such as Safaricom, Airtel Money and Pesaflow and banks such as KCB Equity and Absa to issue his QR code to merchants accepting digital payments.
