Pachagazine: Let’s start with your names.
Dollar 100: Am ROY MWANGI, Stage name Dollar100.
Pachagazine:: Dollar100, just a small history of your stage name.
Dollar 100: Dollar100 was a name given by my friends, in the past I was poor in saving, I could save money in a home bank in the morning and retrive it in the evening. One day I met my sister and explained my saving issue and she explained that I should take money to her and she would show me how to save. Once I started taking money to he, she exchanged it and gave me in dollars and since we as are in swahili land I couldn’t use the money and so I was able to save.
Her Idea help me save and now I always had money in dollars and now my friends started calling me Dollar! ,Dollar! so from the streets to the stage my name disappeared and I was dollar. To spice up my name with a swag I added the figures “100” and my stage name became Dollar100.
Pachagazine:: When did you discover you have such talent in music.
Dollar 100: I officialy started doing music in 2018 ila nilianza harakati za Sanaa 2015 nilianza kwa kucheza move na kuandika stories za move pamoa na kufanya sound track za move. So nilikua naandika nyimbo wanaimba watu wengine baadae so Jipata natumia akili na muda wangu kufanya vitu vikubwa alafu hazinifaidishi mpaka 2018 nikaamua kuingia rasmi mwenyewe Bila kumuandikia mtu yeyote Yule ,eg wa move ambazo zimefanya vizru na nimeandika stories plus sound track Ni
Mwali wa kizaramo ilitoa 2013 na vita ya ukoo ilitoka 2014.
Pachagazine:: Whats your geological background?
Dollar 100: Am from Mbauda, Arusha but curently settling in Dar es salaam, Tanzania.
Pachagazine: What genre of music do you create?
Dollar 100: I do a local genre called Singeli an ofspring of Taarab music.
Pachagazine: Are you under under any label currently or you work alone?
Dollar 100: Yes, Am in a label, VINONDO MUSIC under manager Sakyo in the label we are many artists including ,Tamimu and Msaga Sumu.
Pachagazine:: Are you in music in full time?
Dollar 100: Yes it’s full-time.
Pachagazine: What could you be doing if not for your music career?
Dollar 100: I could have been a surgeon, I studied hard to archive that but I couldn’t finish my studies after I lost my parents.
Pachagazine:: Changamoto zipi we hupitia katika kazi yako?
Dollar 100: Chamoto kubwa Ni ku – record na kufanya video yenye quality nzuri, Hilo ndioo lilikua changamoto kubwa.
Pachagazine:: Take us through your projects, (songs) and may be you can talk more from one of your favorite
Dollar 100: My first project UNO. UNO is a romantic song of showing love and affection to someone I love, calling her to came dance with me.
Pachagazine: Who can you say is your Role Model, locally and internationally?
Dollar 100: My role model in Tanzania is Alikiba I have been listening to him since I was young and until now he is still ruling the game.
Internationally I would say Chris Brown, huyuu jamaa pia Ni msanii ambaye hua nampenda Sana ,coz Ni mwanamuziki ambaye namuona tangu mi mdogo.
Pachagazine: Who would you most likely want to collaborate with?
Dollar 100: Alikiba
Pachagazine:: What do you enjoy most about being a musician? And What do you hate most?
Dollar 100: Ninachokifirahia sana kwa Mimi kua msanii ni ,kwanza la kua on stage nainjoy ,kupata fursa nyingi zaidi kutokana na watu kukuamini kwa urahisi Kupitia jina langu au mzikii wangu ,ila nisichokipenda Ni wanawake kua kunisumbua na kujitongozesha haswa kwenye instagram.
Pachagazine: Where have you performed and which was your favorite venue?
Dollar 100: Yes nimesha perform kwenye stage nyingi mno ila show nikioipenda haswa ni ambayo niliifanya show yangu ya kwanza kuperform kwenye umati wa watu pili sikua na uhakika Kama watu wananijua au kufahamu nyimbo zangu hakika nilikua naogopa Sana Ila wakati natangazwa kupanda stegini aiseee watu walishangilia Mpaka nilihisi kuchanganyikiwa nikawa napanda stegini huku naimba watu wote walitikia kwa kuimba na Mimi sikuamini nilipotizama na kuona wapo watu wamekubali kubanwa kwenye stagi ili tu hata aniguse mkono ,nilihisi kulia kwa furaha ,hakika hii ndioo performance ambayo sitohisahau.
Pachagazine:: If you could change anything about the music industry, what would it be?
Dollar 100: I would change the market of singeli music to international since it a feel good music genre that would vibe with anyone.
Pachagazine:: Any collaboration in the future? waezatupatia hint kidogo tu.
Dollar 100: we are having collateral talks with Alikiba so nasubiri akirudi Toka Kenya tumalizie maongezi MUNGU akijalia inshallah itakua ivyoo.
Pachagazine:: Mawaitha gani unawezapea ambao wana kutazamia, na wangependa kua artist like you?
Dollar 100: Ushauri mkubwa kwa wasanii waohitaji kufika mbali kwanza Ni kua na nidhamu kuwaheshimu wote wanaokuzunguka ,kumuogopa MUNGU na kumtanguliza kwa Kila jambo.
