Pachagazine: Tell us about yourself.
Koushik: My name is Koushik Mandal. I love writing and reading books, especially novels. I am highly interested in politics and enjoy engaging in political debates. I have a deep love for nature and often find solace in wandering through natural surroundings, which I consider the lap of Mother Nature. Currently, I am pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) and am in my second year. Writing is my passion, and I aim to become a better poet someday. I have a particular affinity for Hindi poetry.
Pachagazine: What inspired you to start writing poetry?
Koushik: My inner feelings and our beloved Mother Nature are my primary inspirations.
Pachagazine: What’s your earliest memory of being drawn to poetry or literature?
Koushik: My earliest memory is of my father bringing me books because I was very fond of reading from a young age. This love for reading naturally drew me into literature.
Pachagazine: How do your personal experiences and background influence your poetry?
Koushik: My personal experiences and background play a crucial role in shaping my poetry. Growing up in a multicultural environment exposed me to a variety of traditions and stories, which deeply influence my themes and imagery.
Pachagazine: How do you choose the themes or subjects for your poems?
Koushik: I mainly write about social issues, the environment, and relationships, drawing my topics from these areas.
Pachagazine: What do you do when you’re not writing? Any hobbies or interests?
Koushik: I love playing cricket, reading books, and spending time in nature’s lap, enjoying my solitude.
Pachagazine: Can you share a memorable experience or story behind one of your favorite poems?
Koushik: I remember writing a poem for my sister as a surprise. It came straight from my heart, and after reading it, she started crying. That is a memorable moment for me.
Pachagazine: What has been the most rewarding moment in your poetic career so far?
Koushik: The most rewarding moment for me is when people say, “Beta, bht accha likhte ho, rukna nhi,” which means, “Son, you write very well, don’t stop.” For any poet, such appreciation is more valuable than any award.
Pachagazine: Can you discuss any awards or recognitions you’ve received for your poetry?
Koushik: I have contributed to over 50 anthologies and have compiled a book titled Safar, which means “journey” in English. The book is a collection of poems and quotes in both English and Hindi, and it is available on Amazon Kindle. I have received the “Emerging Writer” award from Kontho. Additionally, I have been recognized by the NGO for my writings on social issues.
Pachagazine: What has been your most challenging poem to write, and how did you overcome the difficulties?
Koushik: The most challenging poem for me was one about politicians and how they misuse taxpayer money. I had many apprehensions about writing on such a sensitive topic, but a friend encouraged me by saying that I was simply writing the truth, not anything illegal.
Pachagazine: Who are some of the poets or literary works that have influenced your style?
Koushik: As a Hindi poet, I am inspired by great poets like Ramdhari Singh Dinkar, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and Harivansh Rai Bachchan, among many others. These poets have always depicted the true image of society.
Pachagazine: How do you handle creative blocks or periods of low inspiration?
Koushik: Whenever I feel low or lack ideas, I spend time in nature, keep myself calm, and read different books to gain new insights.
Pachagazine: How do you balance your writing with your personal life?
Koushik: Writing is an integral part of my personal life, so I don’t need to balance it separately.
Pachagazine: Can you discuss any upcoming projects, publications, or readings you’re particularly excited about?
Koushik: Currently, I am on a long break, enjoying nature and reading books. I am particularly excited about reading a book titled Yaar Papa.
Pachagazine: What are your long-term goals or dreams as a poet?
Koushik: My long-term goal is simple: I want to write poetry about society and the country on real issues and become one of the renowned poets in Hindi.

Koushik: My advice is to follow your heart, be real and practical in life. This way, you will achieve everything you desire.
