Pachagazine: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your journey into the world of music?

Wanjo: Certainly! My name is Wanjo Afrika, and I was born and raised in Kenya. Music has been a part of my life from a very young age, thanks to my parents who introduced me to it. Growing up, I participated in musical groups in school and church, honing my skills along the way. Eventually, I joined a music band and recorded my first official studio track in 2015. When the pandemic hit in 2020, I decided to pursue a solo career to continue sharing my music.

Pachagazine:. What inspired you to become a recording and performing musical artist?

Wanjo: The passion for music has always been burning inside me. I feel most alive when I’m immersed in music, whether it’s creating it or performing it for others.

Pachagazine: Who are some of your biggest musical influences, and how have they shaped your sound?

Wanjo: I’ve been influenced by artists from various genres who have made a mark in the music industry. Listening to a diverse range of music has helped me develop a versatile style in my own craft.

Pachagazine:. Are there any specific genres or artists that have had a significant impact on your style?

Wanjo: I’m drawn to deep, heartfelt, and soulful music from genres like blues, reggae, R&B, and African music.

Pachagazine:  Where do you draw inspiration from when crafting your songs?

Wanjo: My inspiration comes from everyday life, personal experiences, stories of others, and even films. I find inspiration in the world around me and try to reflect that in my music.

Pachagazine:. How would you describe your unique musical style or sound?

Wanjo: I would describe my style as real and timeless. I strive to create music that resonates with authenticity.

Pachagazine: Are there any particular themes or messages you aim to convey through your music?

Wanjo: Love and lifestyle are central themes in my music. I aim to convey messages of love, positivity, and the beauty of life.

Pachagazine: What have been some of the most memorable moments in your musical career so far?

Wanjo: The most memorable moments for me are when strangers recognize and appreciate my music after performances. It’s incredibly gratifying to know that my music has touched someone else’s life.

Pachagazine: Is there a specific performance or project that you’re particularly proud of?

Wanjo: Yes, my latest project “STRONGER” holds a special place in my heart. It’s a testimonial song that I released in 2024 after overcoming a challenging period of surgeries and recovery. It’s a reflection of my resilience and determination.

Pachagazine: What are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced as a recording and performing artist, and how have you overcome them?

Wanjo: Finances have been a significant challenge for me. I’ve had to find alternative sources of income to sustain my music career while continuing to pursue my passion.

Pachagazine:. Are there any artists you dream of collaborating with in the future?

Wanjo: Absolutely! I have dreams of collaborating with both local and international artists who inspire me with their talent and creativity.

Pachagazine:. What can fans expect from you in the near future? Any upcoming projects or performances?

Wanjo: I have several exciting projects in the pipeline that I can’t wait to share with my fans. Stay tuned for new music and performances coming your way!

Pachagazine:. Where do you envision your musical career taking you in the long term?

Wanjo: In the long term, I see my music reaching international audiences, performing for thousands, and inspiring a new generation of talented individuals. I also hope to venture into film and have my music featured as soundtracks in major movie and series projects.

Pachagazine: Outside of music, what else do you do? What are some of your other passions or hobbies?

Wanjo: Aside from music, I’m also a dreadlocks stylist. It’s another creative outlet for me, and I enjoy bringing out the unique beauty in others through hairstyling.
