Pachagazine: Tell as a bit about Casty Mugendi
Casty Mugendi: My name is Casty Mugendi.
I am 20 years old, a student at the technical university of Mombasa, studying procurement and materials management.
I am also a runway and commercial model.
Pachagazine: What got you in to modelling
Casty Mugendi: I love fashion and style.
In my first year in campus, my classmates and friends got used to calling me model. Personally I had no idea I had it in me, then someone approached me about using my face to brand their company and that was when I decided to professionally train in modeling and here I am 2 years later.
Pachagazine: Did you study modeling or its self taught and passion?
Casty Mugendi: First and foremost is art, passion is a must and you never stop learning. I trained and I still train every other day too.
Pachagazine: What’s your action plan to the society as a model?
Casty Mugendi: I would wish to give bigger and better platforms not only to models but to other young people trying to grow and showcase their talents.
This also helps bring the community together, promote growth, love, Peace and harmony and collaborative partnerships.
Pachagazine: Do you work alone or you are under an agency?
Casty Mugendi: When I first started modeling I had joined an agency but after sometime I became independent.
Pachagazine: Have you ever faced criticism in your career?
Casty Mugendi: I have experience criticism before.
As an amateur, some will want to look down on you maybe for not having been in the industry long enough or lacking connections hence being naive.

Pachagazine: What are some of the challenges models face?
Casty Mugendi: Finances. Modeling is not cheap.
To be a successful model you have to use money to be able to make money. Starting from training to doing pro bonos to branding yourself, you need funds.
Secondly the society has very many assumptions about models, some take it as a form of prostitution. In very many cases you will meet directors and managers who will only offer you a job if you accept to sleep with them. You need to be very principled to overcome some of these temptations and you find models desperate to grow or get a chance for a job or even crowns in pagentry willing to do anything to have it.
Pachagazine: Who do you look up to in modeling?
Casty Mugendi: I wouldn’t say I have a specific role model since no one is perfect but I look up to the likes of Naomi Campbell, Kendall Jenner, Winnie Harlow and Ajuma.
Pachagazine: What advice would you give to young women aspiring to venture in to modeling?
Casty Mugendi: You must be passionate and self driven.
Discipline and hard work is a key.
If you do modeling as a career you take it seriously but if you do it as a hobby you are in the wrong direction.
Then in everything put God first
Pachagazine: What are some of your achievement?
Casty Mugendi: I am miss metropolis Africa Mombasa 2019/2020.
Miss valentines Mombasa 2020/2021.
I have done a number of commercials and featured in some major magazines among them; The standard pulse magazine,Belgium sports magazine and beknown magazine among others.
I have also been in some major high fashion runways.
Pachagazine: Which are some of your favourite venues and events you have performed?
Casty Mugendi: One of my favorites is the auto fashion in Nyali Mombasa the venue being Nyali Centre.
