Pachagazine: So let’s start with your name, what your stage name?
Flame Boy: My name is Denis and my stage name is Flame Boy but most people know me as Star Kim.

Pachagazine: Where did you grew up from?
Flame Boy: I was born in Bondeni, Nakuru and I grew up in a place called Kivumbini, it’s like a ghetto then we moved to a place called Lake View.
Pachagazine: When did start doing music?
Flame Boy: I started doing music when I was in primary school, I used to love music so, I used to stealing other people’s songs and sing to my classmates claiming it is my on piece. In secondary school, I started to take music serous but due to some financial issues it was a bit hard.
Pachagazine: What first got you into music?
Flame Boy: Passion is what has been keeping me going, music gives me peace and the more I do it the more I am convinced I was born to do this.
Pachagazine: Which genre are you in to?
Flame Boy: My style of music is mostly Inspirational Music and Love songs.
Pachagazine: If you were not doing music, what would you have become?
Flame Boy: (laughs) Maybe a Business Man, because am really good in business.
Pachagazine: Who are you inspired by in this field of music?
Flame Boy: In music I could say a lot of people inspire me, locally we have people like Khaligraph Jones, Otile Brown and so many more but my biggest motivation is changing the music game in Kenya because the music from outside Kenya is dominating our industry. I want to change that and show Kenyans that Kenya got talent too. Am sure if we package our music well we can put our country on the map.
Internationally I look up to people like Diamond who are doing a good job in representing Africa, Davido, WizKid and many others, They inspire me a lot.
Pachagazine: What would you change in this industry if you were given a chance?
Flame Boy: There a lot of things to be changed in our industry, in different angles but mostly our presenters and people who God have given them the chance to be at the radios or TVs, they are making it hard for young people to get through, that’s why Gengetone was born, but soon we will change all that narrative.
Pachagazine: Tell us about the challenges that you face in you career!
Flame Boy: I have faced a lot of challenges not just in music but in life coming from a family that is not stable has not been easy but it made me to be the person I am today, My house has been locked many times, slept with out eating and many other challenges that most youths face. Latter on I moved to China.

Pachagazine: Tell us a little about that settle abroad, how long did it take you to adapt?
Flame Boy: It was a huge straggle to get out of Kenya because it needed a lot of money, I had to take a lot of loans, my parents almost sold everything they had so that I can go. No where on this earth is easy to live but now things are much better than they used to be.
It didn’t take me too long to adapt because if you can survive in Kenya you can survive in any place in the world (laughs)
Pachagazine: How long have you stayed there, and as far as language is concern, how as it been for you?
Flame Boy: It’s now 2 years. At first it was very hard because most people here don’t speak English so I had to use my phone to translate what I wanted to say but later on, I started teaching my self how to speak Chinese. Now I can speak one or two things.
Pachagazine: Do you have any project? if so take us through one.
Flame Boy: I have one single song which is my first track on YouTube and it is doing pretty good, It’s called ‘Pesa‘ it’s just about reminding people we should not focus on money and forget our family, loved ones and even God.
Pachagazine: Are you under any label currently?
Flame Boy: No am not in any label but I will be launching my own label soon.
Pachagazine: Any collaborations you have?
Flame Boy: Yes I have a big collaboration with one big Kenyan artist, already recorded just trying to work on the perfect time to launch it.
Pachagazine: What do you love most in what you do (music), and what do you hate?
Flame Boy: I love everything about music and my journey am sure one day I will be a big star. What I hate is the fact that I still can’t do it full time.
My venture into entrepreneurship has got me occupied a lot, but soon with good planing and God’s favor, I will do full time.
Pachagazine: What advise would you give to those who look up to you, and the uprising artist.
Flame Boy: Those who look up to me, I would like to request them to keep on supporting me because we are just getting started, and to never give up in their dreams, there is nothing impossible in this world Hard Work, Prayers and Persistence pays.
Pachagazine: How can people find your music, social media platform?
Flame Boy: Currently am only on Instagram and YouTube.
Pachagazine: What message are sending to your fans concerning the current pandemic?
Flame Boy: I would remind them to take good care of themselves and their family because this virus is real but soon we will get over it.
It’s a hard time for everyone but they should Not Give Up.
