An exclusive detailed one on one with versatile multitalented DJ, DJ Sonch.
Pachagazine: Introduce yourself.
DJ Sonch: My name is DJ Sonch, am a producer, video editor, an event organiser and of course a DJ.
Pachagazine: How did you find yourself in this entrainment field, mainly the DJ sector?
DJ Sonch: Well it’s a long story, but when I was in college, I had a friend who introduced me to a TV program, while on TV set there was this DJ who was running a program, I approached him, became friends and introduced me to this DJ sector.
Pachagazine: So, yours you didn’t go to actual DJ Academy?
DJ Sonch: No! Help from friends and self taught.
Pachagazine: When did you now start doing it as a career?
DJ Sonch: Back in 2017, that’s when I started doing it now like an actual job.
Pachagazine: Which genre of music do you mix?
DJ Sonch: I do all kind of music, except Rocks.
Pachagazine: If you were not doing DJ, what would have you become?
DJ Sonch: Am an engineer by profession.
Pachagazine: How do you juggle both professions?
DJ Sonch: Well, the DJ took all the time and decided let me put the engineer aside, can’t complain am doing good in DJ.
Pachagazine: How have you been coping with this pandemic we’ve been facing!
DJ Sonch: Our sector was the most affected, but I’ve been doing the online shows, I have some connections with local and international DJs, we’ve been working together, selling and making mixtapes for DJs.
Also, I have a project am running on farm activities.
Pachagazine: How has this Covid-19 affected you, in your line of work?
DJ Sonch: With all the guidelines, events have reduced, movement has been minimal, everything change but we are trying.
Pachagazine: If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
DJ Sonch: A lot can be said, but for me I would work on hatred among us in the industry, we don’t support each other, I would like to change that, ensuring we all work together. Did artists all the stake holders.
Pachagazine: Tell us about your favourite performance venues you’ve been.
DJ Sonch: Radio Maisha, I had show at that radio station, the experience was good getting an opportunity to be listened by over 4 million listeners at ago, that was a highlight to me.
Pachagazine: Who do you look up to as a role model, here in Kenya and over the sea?
DJ Sonch: In Kenya, I’ll say DJ Kalonje and Joe Mfalme, international DJ Puffy.
Pachagazine: Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years to come?
DJ Sonch: Helping other DJs grow their talents, Talent wise I guess I will be somewhere great God willing.
Pachagazine: What do you enjoy most about being a DJ? What do you hate most?
DJ Sonch: I enjoy most when entertaining people, just seeing having fun, that’s my joy, what I hate most is when people try to bring me down.

Pachagazine: What advice could you give to the uprising DJs.
DJ Sonch: They should put God first in everything they do.
