Pachagazine: Can you share a bit about your journey into music? How did you discover your passion for singing and songwriting?
Liv Hanna: Growing up immersed in various musical genres and undergoing early voice and piano lessons, my love for singing blossomed. Participating in theater camps, community theater, and the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra broadened my musical horizons. I delved into songwriting at the age of 12, recording in studios since I was 14. Despite my classical background, crafting my own music in a studio became my favorite pursuit.
Pachagazine: Did you always know you wanted to be a singer-songwriter? Who were your early musical influences?
Liv Hanna: While I always aspired for a career in music, I wasn’t fixed on being a singer-songwriter. Considering roles in theater, acting, and A&R or marketing for a record label, my influences, including Amy Winehouse, Miley Cyrus, Madison Beer, Lana Del Rey, Lady Gaga, and Nessa Barrett, have been diverse.
Pachagazine: Your music has been described as a blend of Pop, Dark Pop, and Pop Rock. Can you tell us what inspired your unique sound?
Liv Hanna: My music reflects on life’s traumas, tragedies, and heartaches, generating emotions like anger, sadness, and frustration. With a touch more spice than pop, I craft a self-reflective narrative that distinguishes my sound.
Pachagazine: Congratulations on your latest release, “lonely.” Can you give us some insight into the inspiration behind the song?
Liv Hanna: “Lonely” peels back the curtain on a seemingly perfect life, exposing the loneliness behind the club scene and the life of a socialite. Initially written as a ballad, the song took a different turn during production, capturing the chaos and overwhelming loneliness that the protagonist is consumed by.
Pachagazine: Your expansive vocal range is a notable aspect of your artistry. How do you work to showcase this range while maintaining the emotional authenticity of your performances?
Liv Hanna: I believe range and dynamics contribute to emotional authenticity. Experimenting with soft bridges, powerful choruses, and emotional vocal breaks, I navigate a wide range, occasionally challenging myself to create new melodic patterns.
Pachagazine: If you could collaborate with any artist right now, who would it be and why?
Liv Hanna: Tate McRae, Madison Beer, Nessa Barrett, or Miley Cyrus – I appreciate their musicianship and admire their stylistic choices as artists.
Pachagazine: What else do you do apart from your art?
Liv Hanna: I’m a proud dog mom to a 7-month-old maltipoo named Teddy. Living in Florida, my days are often filled with his playful companionship.
Pachagazine: How do you balance the personal and professional aspects of your life as a young artist?
Liv Hanna: Balancing personal and professional life is challenging, but dedicating at least an hour each day to music, whether creating or marketing, helps me stay consistent with my craft and brand.
Pachagazine: What message do you have for young aspiring musicians who dream of following in your footsteps?
Liv Hanna: Keep going. Embrace every idea and project, as you can’t predict how your audience will receive your music. Don’t give up, and one day, you’ll find success.
Pachagazine: Can you provide a sneak peek into what your fans can expect from your upcoming singles in 2024? Any collaborations or themes you are excited to explore?
Liv Hanna: Exciting times ahead! “Crazy” is set for release on March 8th, followed by more singles in the spring/early summer. A collaboration is in the works, exploring themes of self-reflection in relationships. Additionally, I hope to perform more and release my EP in the fall.
