George Wajackoyah is an enthusiast who shaped his destiny and did it perfectly. He was once a street child, a police inspector, became a night guard, and dug graves for a living. Today, he is a professor of law, priest, politician, and one of the frontrunners for Kenyaâs presidency in August 2022. Apart from his career, he is a learned individual with at least 16 degrees and can speak 11 languages, including local dialects.
George Luchiri Wajackoyah was born on 24 October 1959 (age 63 as of 2022) at St Maryâs Hospital in Jinja, Uganda. He is the son of Tito Olilo Jakoya (father) and Melenia Makokha (mother). Although he was born in Uganda, he is Kenyan through his father.
George has a wife and a child. His wife is African-American and has walked with him throughout his professional and political journey. Furthermore, Wajackoyah has children whose names remain unknown. The lawyer lives in Nairobi, Kenya. However, his wife lives in America.
George Wajackoyah grew up in Indangalasia village in West Wanga, Mumias, Kakamega County, Kenya. Indangalasia village is the same village where his father was born and raised. Also, Georgeâs mother is Kenyan and was born in Butula, Busia County, Kenya. Wajackoyah gets his Ugandan roots from his mother.
His maternal grandfatherâs (Gabriel Ondenga) parents were immigrants from Samia, a dominant tribe of the Bakhulo clan. The clan consists of Bantu-speaking people diversely settled within Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. In Kenya, the Bakhulo live within the Luhya-speaking regions of Busia County.
When George was 16, he stowed away to Nairobi and lived in the streets. He joined other street children and learned to trade. Fortunately, the Hare Krishna rescued George and gave him and other street children shelter. He had to convert to Hare Krishna and become one of its members. George adjusted quickly, found comfort in the Krishnas and became Krishna Balaram.
Since George had completed his Oâlevels (primary school), he was lucky enough when one of the followers of Hare Krishna offered him a chance to pursue his secondary education. Thus, George joined St. Peter Mumias Boys High School and completed his Aâlevels in 1980. After high school, he joined the Kenya Police Training College, Kiganjo, to study Policing and Criminal Investigation.
In 1990, Wajackoyah fled the country and settled in the United Kingdom. While in the UK, he joined local universities and earned a dozen law degrees at the Universities of Wolverhampton, London (SOAS), Warwick, and Westminster & UOL Birkbeck.
George Wajackoyah’s educational background is impressive. He has many law degrees from different universities worldwide. He has also studied French, Security and Intelligence, Economics, Philosophy, and African Studies.
George joined the Kenya Police Training College, Kiganjo, to study Policing and Criminal Investigation. When he completed his studies in Kiganjo, he joined the police as a recruit constable and climbed the ladder to Inspectorate rank.
In 1990, the Police Service placed him in charge of collecting intelligence on the death of the late Foreign Affairs Minister Robert Ouko. Unfortunately, things turned sour for Wajackoyah when his curiosity about the investigations led to his arrest, forceful detention, and severe torture, almost losing his eyesight.
Luckily, some Americans planned for his release. But George did not feel safe in the country anymore and opted to flee, eventually settling in the United Kingdom. In the UK, Wajackoyah took his time and thoughts to study law. However, he had to find a way of paying for his tuition. Therefore, he resorted to digging graves and working as a night security guard.
George Wajackoyah acquired law degrees in UK universities, including Wolverhampton, London (SOAS), Warwick, and Westminster & UOL Birkbeck. He then began practising law in the UK and opened a firm that dealt with immigration. Wajackoyah settled in the United Kingdom for two decades, working as a lawyer before relocating to the United States.
In 2010, Wajackoyah returned to Kenya and established his law firm called Luchiri & Co. Advocates. In 2021, the professor announced he would run for Kenyaâs presidency on 9 August 2022. His party is Roots Party, which advocates for bhang legalisation in Kenya.
As of 2022, Wajackoyah is a Faculty Member at the Institute of Migration at the University of Nairobi and is a law lecturer teaching International Law at the United States International University – Africa. In June 2022, Kenyaâs electoral body (IEBC) cleared the lawyer to run for Kenyaâs presidency.
